Baths, like people, are not all the same shape or size!

When choosing, take into account space available and how it will be used; is it intended for just bathing or will it also be used as a shower?

Shower Trays

Shower tray

We have over 50 sizes of shower tray to choose from starting from as small as 61cm square to as large as 200x120cm. For the most part shower trays are made from acrylic sheet reinforced with a cast stone structure so rigidity will not be a problem. We also display steel shower trays which are of course extremely durable and offer an even greater selection of sizes than its acrylic counterpart.

Occasionally we are asked to supply a shower tray with built-in up stands. Whilst we do have a limited choice available, it shouldn't be necessary because in a typical installation the tray should be recessed into the wall and the tiles or wallboard should sit flush on the edge of the tray thus ensuring a watertight seal.

The height of the shower tray

Shower tray

Your shower tray can be as little as 3.5cm high which allows easy access for you and enhances the appearance. If you have a situation where it is impossible for the waste to be installed under the floor, for example a block of flats with a concrete floor, then it is possible to select a shower tray with an easy plumb kit. These kits will raise the tray approximately 9cm from the floor to allow space for the waste and trap and are supplied with adjustable legs and an acrylic plinth panel.

Won't a shallow shower tray overflow?

We are sometimes asked that with such a shallow tray if there is a possibility of the water overflowing. This is very unlikely as even a standard shower waste can cope with more than 25 litres of water per minute and with most water systems producing 18 litres per minute or less there won't be a problem. There are also wastes that can cope with more than 50 litres per minute for those of you who have sufficient pressure and require a real drench shower.

Shower tray

One last comment on shower trays; if you intend to install it yourself and it is your first time, do follow the instructions carefully. Although cast stone shower trays are extremely solid and can be very heavy, most of them require being laid on a ply floor and levelled on a base of sand and cement. Failure to do this will probably mean the tray cracking in a short period of time which is not pleasant!
